Lonely Travel - Chennai to Kollur - Mookambigai Temple

Travelling to Kollur was always fun for me. Mostly because of the break from the routine schedule. The travel plan used to include a visit to Kanghangad. A little coastal town in Kerala. Hometown to my good friend Krsna. (Comfortable stay, great food included).

The last visit was different. I planned to travel alone. Travel by train to Mangalore and by bus to Kollur (through the dense forest).

I tried getting some details from the Internet and did not find any good info (hence this post).

The best way to travel from Chennai to Kollur is via Mangalore. Trains are available throughout the week. I booked my online train tickets, one day before travelling (was lucky to get tickets).

Chennai to Mangalore:

Train Name- Mangalore Express
Train No- 2685
Departure- 17Hrs
Arrival- 9:15Hrs
Duration- 16Hrs

Hotels at Mangalore: (never stayed but heard good reviews)
Hotel Abhiman Residency - 0824 - 2446304/05
Hotel Taj Manjarun - 0824 - 6660420

Mangalore to Kollur:

Buses are available frequently (for every 1 hour) directly to Kollur or you may take bus to Kundapura and from Kundapura to Kollur.

Mangalore to Kundapura (via Udipi) - 3 Hours

Kundapura to Kollur - 1 Hour

Kollur has quite a few decent lodges. You can always find a place to stay when you reach there (not sure during the festival seasons). Hotel Sri Akshaya (08254-258441 or 9448824554) had a decent room with neat bedsheets and hot water facility.

Mangalore to Chennai:

Train Name - Chennai Express
Train No - 0662
Departure - 17Hrs
Arrival - 8:45Hrs
Duration - 16Hrs

Overall, the journey from Mangalore to Kollur by bus was pleasant. However, if I had to travel with family or friends, I would prefer a taxi (readily available to Kollur).

What causes hair loss - one more reason

I assume that most of the visitors to my blog are my friends and family members. They all know the importance of hair loss and i thought this link would be useful to them.

Dr. Razavi's Good to Know Info - what causes hair loss

She has given a list of reasons that cause hair loss.

Another reason that I think that causes hair loss is "teasing people who are loosing hair". I am not sure how many would agree to that (not proven), but I know I have CMK & Murali who will agree with me.

Quoting the Quotes - 3

An interesting Quote I received by SMS.

A lion running behind a small rabbit. The lion tried his best but was not able to to catch it.

The lion stopped and said "I am the king of the jungle, I have four strong legs and good staminastill I could not catch you.

Why?

Rabbit replied, "Dear Lion you were running for your lunchand I was running for my life.

This is world. Run for your life. You will succeed always.

Leaders Thoughts - Warren Buffett

U.S.News & World Report has a special feature on America’s Best Leaders. The committee selected 20 winners from a list of 200. They define Leaders as “motivates people to work collaboratively to accomplish great things.”

Warren Buffet, CEO, Berkshire Hathaway was among the Best Leaders.

Few of his quotes from that article,

“Money aside, there is very little difference between you and me in terms of lifestyle. I eat simple meals. I drive a regular car. I make decision, and yes, I too make mistakes.”

“Be a nice person…..It’s a so simple that it’s almost too obvious to notice. Look around at the people you like. Isn’t it a logical assumption that if you like traits in other people, then other people would like you if you developed those same traits?”

“You’re thinking that the investors, bankers, and regulators are the people you need to survive.Put them all aside, and give priority to talking to your people and your customers about what is wrong and what you have to do.”

“Berkshire is my painting, so it should look the way i want it to when it’s done”

Adsense login problem

Last few weeks I had trouble logging into my adsense account. I was accessing adsense account after a long time. Everytime I tried logging, there was an error message saying "Welcome! You're signed in to Google Accounts under the email [e-mail id] and your Google Account password, but this is different from your AdSense account email and/or password. If you're an AdSense publisher, try signing in using your AdSense email and password. Or, sign up for AdSense."

I was sure that my e-mail id & password was right, so It was kind of frustrating to see not being able to log into the account. Today, i was able to log in. So what was the problem?

Though I use Gmail id as username for the Adsense account, the password I had assigned for the adsense account was differenet from the one I used to log into my gmail account i.e. same email id but different passwords for gmail and adsense.

At adsense home there was no link to retrieve the Adsense password and that was the problem.

I thought many would encounter the same problem, so this post could be helpful if you have a similar problem.

If you know your email id associated with adsense account but forgot the password, use the link https://www.google.com/adsense/assistlogin to receive your password.

Quoting the Quotes - 1

Ocassionally I come across few quotes that I want to pass it on to others. What else could be the best way than having it in my blog. And let me know if you like it (and if you don't like it too.)

If the first thing you do every morning is to eat a live frog, nothing worse will happen to you all day.
The meaning is that you maintain momentum by tackling your most difficult and important problem first thing in the morning.

Hmm.. Sounds interesting, but i hate problems.

Restaurants in Chennai

I had a client visit from USA this week (2 Americans & 1 Indian). Deciding the restaurants to suit their tastes was pretty difficult. food should not be too spicy, good ambiance and ofcourse good service. I took them to the following restaurants during their 3 day visit and I should say it was pretty good.

  1. Mainland China at Sterling Road - Chinese Food, my favorite was Fish Karuba.

  2. Saravana Bhavan at Shanthi Theatre Complex - South Indian Meals and the Sambar

  3. Wharf Restaurant at GRT Temple bay, Mahabalipuram - Seafood Continental/Tandoor Style and surprisingly the bar and the restaurant was not too expensive.

  4. Bikes & Barrels Pub at Residency Towers- the place was just OK on a Tuesday

  5. Virudhunagar at AnnaNagar- Spicy chettinad style chicken and mutton. My guest liked it too. The ambiance was good but they need to do something about their entrance.

  6. The Amethyst at Gopalapuram- Good place for a chat. I saw quite few foreigners there and the menu (including the price) is designed for them. My favorite was the Power Syrup (Hibiscus Syrup with Soda), was different and tasted gooood. Would go to that place again for a power syrup :-)

  7. Sri Krishna Sweets at AnnaNagar - Bought some mysurpa and dates halwa! and yes they liked it too.

Are there any other suggestions for restaurants in Chennai?

And inbetween all this we had some business talk too.
